We are very pleased to announce that we have two amazing poets both sharing their work with you today. We apologize for the inundation of invites you may have been receiving if you on Facebook, but we wanted to give each and everyone of you the opportunity to hear these incredible readings! We have Leonard Gontarek on at 300p EST, and Franz Wright follows at 500p EST. We hope you will all be there to be inspired by these poetic geniuses. The Joe Milford Poetry Show is on Facebook and Myspace. You can look up the show and add us as a friend for updates, andecdotes, and links. We have an updated Links page with things you need to know about including Dustin Brookshire, Jamie Iredale, Starry Night Artists' Community, and more!

We have a special edition show coming up featuring Charles Bernstein on Friday morning at 1000am. If anyone will be stuck at work during that hour and a half -- don't worry -- the show will be archived on BlogTalk Radio and on our website within the hour after the show is over.

We would like to graciously acknowledge our fans and listeners. Without you, there could not be a Joe Milford Poetry Show or a website. The response to our mailers and other promotion has been overwhelming to say the least. The number of listeners and downloads to our shows has tripled in the last three weeks, and we could not be more grateful to those of you devoting your time to our cause.

Don't forget to go to Blog Talk and create a profile. Here you will be able to add us as a friend and comment on and rate our shows. Our goal here is to build a library for poets, writers, students, professors, and anyone interested in the aesthetic of poetry or who enjoys poetry. We are going to do this as long as possible, and it will last longer the more listeners we have. So, tell your friends about your new favorite radio show that is available for their listening pleasure at their convenience. We welcome and invite our new listeners to critique and rave by leaving comments on our BlogTalk Profile and adding their names to our mailing list.

We are working hard to bring you the best quality readings by established and upcoming poets that will astound and intrigue for generations to come. Graduate of the UNCG MFA program, co-editor of Wild Goose Poetry Review, and author of “Musings,” a weekly poetry column in Outlook, Scott Owens is the 2008 Visiting Writer at Catawba Valley Community College. His first full-length collection of poetry, The Fractured World was published in August by Main Street Rag. He is also author of two chapbooks The Persistence of Faith (1993) from Sandstone Press and Deceptively Like a Sound (Dead Mule, 2008). A third chapbook, The Book of Days, will be published by Dead Mule in January. He has been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes and a Best of the Net Prize this year. His poem, “On the Days I Am Not My Father,” was recently featured on Garrison Keillor’s NPR show The Writer’s Almanac. Born in Greenwood, SC, he now lives in Hickory, NC, where he teaches and coordinates the Poetry Hickory reading series.

The Show Launches and General Thoughts

Well, the site is up and running. And you have definitely responded. We are getting hits and downloads left and right--when I say we, I am referring to my wife, Chenelle, who built this site for me--for all of you--for us. We hope to continue to archive poets and to create an online sonic library for all of our visitors.

I recently booked Dean Young for my show--we had been kicking around dates for the show for months, and finally settled on a Tuesday. Meanwhile, I was trying to book Tony Hoagland and Matt Hart. As it all fell together, this Tuesday evening ended a weekend interview with Matt Hart (who was once taught by Dean Young as was I), a phone call to confirm Dean's Tuesday appearance only to find that Tony Hoagland was in Dean's office at the time I called, and the confirmed booking of Tony Hoagland's appearance for this Saturday. Can we say synergy? Auroric alignment? Providence? Alchemical atomization?

I did not plan for these three particular poets of somewhat the same ilk and association to fall together as they did--so, can I take it as an omen or portent alluding to the ongoing and upcoming success of this archive? Maybe I will take it that way just for the heck of it.

We welcome all of you here--peruse the voices we have collected--enjoy and learn and be amazed.

Matt Hart is the author of Who's Who Vivid (Slope Editions, 2006) and three chapbooks, Revelated (Hollyridge Press, 2005), SONNET, (H_NGM_N Books, 2006), and Simply Rocket (Lame House Press, 2007). A new collaborative chapbook with poet Ethan Paquin, Deafening Leafening, is forthcoming from Pilot Books in 2009. Born in Evansville, Indiana in 1969, Hart studied philosophy at both Ball State University and Ohio University before going on to receive his MFA in poetry from the Warren Wilson College MFA Program for Writers. His poems, reviews, and essays have been published in numerous journals, including The Agriculture Reader, Conduit, Gulf Coast, The Harvard Review, Lungfull!, Ploughshares, and Spinning Jenny. Online his work can be seen in such journals as Coldfront, DIAGRAM, Fou,
H_NGM_N, Konundrum Engine Literary Review, Octopus, and TYPO. Six times nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and in 2003 for Best American Poetry, he was the 2007 John Ciardi Fellow in Poetry at the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, as well as the 2005 Winter Residency Fellow at the Warren Wilson College MFA Program for Writers. In 1995 he co-founded Forklift, Ohio: A Journal of Poetry, Cooking and Light Industrial Safety, which he still edits and co-publishes, and which, this Spring, will celebrate the publication its 20th issue. A twenty year veteran of the punk rock/alternative music scene, his music has appeared in major motion pictures and on MTV. He currently plays in the experimental noise-poetry band Travel and the Go-Kart records pop-punk band, Squirtgun. He has lived in Cincinnati, Ohio since 1993 where he is an Assistant Professor in the Academic Studies Department at the Art academy of Cincinnati, a four year college of art and design. His wife Melanie teaches art at the Rees-Price Academy in Cincinnati Public schools. His daughter, Agnes, is two and thinks she's a hummingbird.
